In my spare time I have been working on a hobby game project. The purpose of the project is to extend my existing skills into game development by learning the nuances of the Unreal Engine.
The game itself is a 3D multiplayer action game with a popup book style. I am working on incorporating various aspects from AI, gameplay mechanics, custom shaders, and networking in order to gain a broad understanding of the features available in Unreal. I am also working on the project using Linux since that is the environment I am most comfortable in. Unreal isn’t perfectly supported on Linux so that present some challenges. But overall I think the extra challenge is worth it as it forces me to dive into the depths of the Unreal build system and fully understand how the engine operates.
I have been posting small explanations as I implement new systems into the game. You can find them by going to the home page of my site.
